My Bio:
Adrian
Graham Streather was born on December 25, 1958. Upon leaving school he
joined the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) in 1975 entering RAAFSTT as a
16 year old on No. 29 Apprentice Intake (Emus). After 2 years at RAAF base
Wagga and a further 2 years on the job training at 11Sqn and 492Sqn (RAAF
Edinburgh) Adrian graduated as an Instrument Fitter (Scientific Instrument
Maker). He also gained additional qualifications in the electronics field
whilst in the RAAF and decided that after 12 years he would leave in 1987.
From the RAAF he went into civil aviation, gaining licenses in the avionics
and electrical fields. After working with three different aviation companies
within Australia he was invited to join one of the four Austrian airline
companies, Rheintalflug, which had its main technical base in Switzerland.
The Streather family left Australia in April 1993 and proceeded to
Switzerland where Adrian worked as the Engineering Manager until October
31st 2003 when he was asked to leave by the new company owners as they were
shutting down the company, handing the service over to another subsidiary.
Adrian's personal involvement in motor racing and automobiles started very
young. "My first recollection of model building was a 1930
Bentley racing car. In 1978 he and a friend started rallying and then he
moved into briefly into track racing. A Suzuki GS 1000S motorcycle also
figured in the action as well. The ever increasing financial burden of this
hobby along with marriage and children force him to make a decision and he
decided that his racing days were over, his passion for automobiles was not.
Overtaken on the south eastern freeway in 1978 by two 911SCs furthered
Adrian's passion, "All I remember was seeing their wide rear ends
disappearing into the distance and me saying I have got to get me one of
those." In 1993 he purchased a black, 1979 924 (sold to Denmark). He then
progressed onto a 944 (which is now in Sweden, given as a gift) and finally
he purchased his first 911. The 911 (964) Carrera 4 hooked him for life and
fuelled his involvement in the Porsche scene around the world.
Quickly discovering that the technical knowledge about the 964 series was
extremely limited, he set himself to the task of finding out everything he
could about the inner workings of the Carrera 4. Adrian found himself
instructing the mechanics at his local repair facility on how the C4 worked.
This experience led him to write his first book on the Porsche 911 (964)
Carrera 2, Carrera 4 and Turbo.
His second book on the 911SC was published
in 2005 by Veloce in England and this was followed in early 2006 with
publication of the 993 book in 2006 by the same publisher. Adrian biggest
and best book yet on the 996 series has been released onto the market in 2008 also
by Veloce. Adrian has written a book on the Ford GTs (GT40) past
and present called the Ford GT Then and Now. A Porsche build specification
code book will be published by Veloce in the second half of 2008.
Adrian lives in the village of
Walzenhausen Switzerland with
his wife of over 26 years, Gail Kerrin, daughter Stephanie Lauren and son
Jeremy Lyndon. Their home is nestled in the mountains overlooking Austria,
Germany and Lake Konstanz (Constance) in the far north east corner of
Switzerland.
